body - soap
Ophelia, transparent soap, 14x11cm, 2026
The body in these sculptures stands for more than appearance. It is the shell that carries our thoughts, emotions, and experiences through the world. With transparent soap, the inside and outside seem closer to each other. The material suggests honesty and openness — a body that exists without disguise. It allows light to pass through, making the body appear both present and slightly exposed. This transparency is important to me. It creates a feeling of vulnerability, as if nothing can be hidden.
Soap is also connected to ideas of cleansing and social expectations of “purity.” In this context, I use it to question those norms. Why are certain bodies seen as needing correction or control? The transparency invites viewers to look carefully and recognize the depth, dignity, and humanity within every form.
